Teacher Talent Show

We had a very entertaining teacher talent show yesterday!  Here is a link to a video of the illusion dance that our very own kindergarten teachers did.  We copied this from another youtube video and we were not as good but had so much fun with it!

Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!

Since we are learning about insects this week, we had a special visitor today!  Our visitor brought some insects to show us.  We started by viewing several dead species of butterflies from all over the world!  Then the live bugs were brought out....

Safari Field Trip

We were so sad that our field trip was cancelled last week due to the weather.  Luckily, we were able to reschedule for this week.  The weather was beautiful, the animals were so much fun, and we had a wonderful time!

Farm Unit

Last week, our class learned about farm animals and the many products that come from a farm.  We even made butter!  Yesterday, we had a visit from some baby chicks!

A sight word center:  Students had to break open the egg to spill out the cut up sight word.  They had to figure out which word it is and then record it on thier papers.

We are learning to put words in ABC order!

April Fool's Day!

I was so excited to play a prank on my class for April Fool's Day!  I told them all that I have made "Brownies" for them and if they were very well behaved, they would get one.  All day long, I stressed how important it was to have excellent behavior and to get all work done so they could earn a "Brownie".

I kept my tub closed but in sight all day

I made brown letter Es out of construction paper

I had a lot of disappointed faces when they finally earned their "brown E".

OK, the joke didn't last long... I gave them a real brownie in the end!

We wrote about the joke and how it made us feel.

Math Centers and Dr. Seuss

We love to play math games during our math center time.  Here are some pictures of the children having fun while working on important math skills.

Students add each side of a domino and place it under the number of the corresponding sum on the number line.

This is another domino game where each student chooses a domino, counts and writes the number of each side of the domino, and then writes the sum below.

This game is called "Under the Bowl".  It helps with both addition and subtraction skills.  Two students start with a bowl and ten counters.  One student closes his eyes while the other student hides some under the bowl but leaves the rest out.  The student then opens their eyes and has to figure out how many counters are under the bowl by looking at the ones that are out of the bowl.

Students place number tiles to fill in missing numbers on a chart.

Yahtzee!  Students roll two dice and add them together.  Then they place a marker on that sum.  The person who fills in his chart first, wins the game!
